Crickdose: Three Things That We Learned From England’s Win Over Ireland

Ireland played a test match at Lord’s for the very first time. England were the opposition, and they were expected to steamroll the Irish. But that is not how it panned out. So, here are the top three things that we learned from England’s win over Ireland:

1) Marvellous Murtagh

Tim Murtagh would never have imagined that he would be on the honours board at Lord’s. That too in the away dressing room. After so many years on the English county circuit, Murtagh opted to play for Ireland in international cricket. His first visit to Lord’s as an international player proved to be memorable as the Irish bowled out England for a mere 85.

2) Leach Show

Jack Leach is a spinner who bats a bit. This statement may have to be reviewed in the wake of the match. Leach batted outstandingly well for his 92 and managed to get England back in the game. He placed a high value on his wicket, managing to frustrate the Irish bowlers. For his effort, he was chosen as the man of the match.

3) Wonderful Woakes

Chris Woakes does not appear to be an intimidating bowler. However, if the conditions are right, he can prove to be a real handful. Woakes bowled superbly well in the second innings, as Ireland were bowled out for just 38. England managed to record a comfortable win and this was all due to their superb bowling.

To sum up, the Test was an amazing game of cricket and showed that Ireland can compete at the highest level. They managed to push England all the way, but eventually came up short. Hats off to the Irish.
