The West Indies managed to stun India in the first ODI. They chased down 288 to beat India at their own turf. So, here are the top three things that we learned from the West Indies’ win over India in the First ODI:
1) Superb Shimron
Shimron Hetmyer has always been a player with huge potential. However, he has not always performed up to expectations. He had a poor IPL last time and was also inconsistent in the World Cup. But in this match he showed his true potential. His innings of 139 led his team to a stunning win over India.
2) India Struggle
India struggled with the bat in hand. Although they posted 287 in the end, they were never quite in control. Plus, considering the manner in which Hetmyer batted, there were not too many demons in the pitch. Indian batsmen will have to improve their performance over the rest of this series if they want to compete.
3) Poor Dube
Shivam Dube did not impress with the ball in hand. He was too easy to put away and struggled with his line and length. India are trying to groom Dube as a replacement for the injured Pandya, but the experiment is not going too well. Dube really needs to improve as a bowler if he wants to cement his place.
To sum up, this match showed that the Indians are beatable at home. The West Indies have been in good form in the ODIs, and they will be hoping to continue this form over the remaining matches. This could be a very closely-fought series!
