Futydose: Three Things We Learned from PL Gameweek 20

Gameweek 20 was a really eventful one. There were so many exciting games and quite a few upsets as well. Liverpool and City continued to win while Spurs and Arsenal failed to do so. So here is a look at the three things we learned from PL Gameweek 20:

1) Liverpool March On

Liverpool continued their winning run by smashing Arsenal 5-1. The gunners started the game well and took the lead against the Reds. However, Liverpool hit back in fine style, led by Firmino’s wonderful hat-trick. This result showed that the Reds are the team to beat this season and they could go all the way.

2) Sorry Spurs

Tottenham were beaten at home by Wolves in the biggest shock of this week. Nobody expected Wolves to win by a 3-1 margin. This miracle happened after Spurs took the lead. But Wolves never give up and they managed to turn it around massively. This was a huge blow to Spurs but they have the ability to bounce back straight away.

3) United Return

United are back to winning ways, and how! Since the appointment of Solskjaer they have managed to win every single game that they have played. This week they smashed Bournemouth 4-1. Even Lukaku managed to score a goal, despite being on the pitch for less than 5 minutes. The signs are good for the Red Devils and they are now firmly in the top 6.

To sum up, there was so much action this week which got our pulse racing. There is even more to look forward to since a double gameweek is coming up. Wishing all our readers a happy and prosperous new year!

Futydose: Three Things We Learned from PL Gameweek 18

Gameweek 18 threw up some really amazing results. More often than not, the festive period throws up some high scoring games. It was the same this week since Spurs scored 6 and Man Utd scored 5. So here is a look at the three things we learned from PL Gameweek 18:

1) Liverpool Lead

Liverpool have a 4 point lead at the top of the league going into Christmas. Much was made about the tough challenge they might face away at Wolves, but they made easy work of it. They won the game 2-0 and now have a significant lead with the season almost halfway complete. The reds are looking good for the title!

2) Sensational Spurs

Spurs also faced a tough away match against Everton. However, they also managed to allay the fears and crushed Everton 6-2. It was a truly amazing game which could have finished 4-8 or something like that! But Harry Kane inspired Spurs to a great win. They are still in the title race, although it is highly unlikely that they will manage to overtake City and Liverpool.

3) City Shock

Man City were looking ominous this season but the last few weeks have changed that perception drastically. They have now lost to Chelsea as well as Crystal Palace, handing Liverpool an advantage in the title race. Although there is still a long way to go, City will need to really pick themselves up in order to overtake Liverpool.

To sum up, it was a wonderful weekend of football. With the games coming thick and fast, there is no dearth of excitement in the Premier League!

Futydose: Three Things We Learned from PL Gameweek 17

Gameweek 17 was an absolutely amazing week of football. The heavyweights Liverpool and Man Utd went up against each other, while Spurs faced a resilient Burnley. Chelsea were away at Brighton while Arsenal were playing at Southampton. So here is a look at the three things we learned from PL Gameweek 17:

1) Arsenal Defeat

Southampton were not playing well before this weekend. They were in the bottom three with a real threat of relegation looming. Their new manager was looking for his first win since his appointment but he faced a tough task against Arsenal who were unbeaten in a long time. However, the saints managed to beat Arsenal 3-2 with a winner in the last few minutes. If they continue to play this way, they will survive!

2) Lovely Liverpool

Liverpool had to win in order to leap above Man City to the top of the table. They were up against old rivals Man Utd. It was billed to be a really exciting game. However, Man Utd were extremely lacklustre and Liverpool had 36 shots in the game! They managed to win 3-1 driven by Shaqiri’s brilliance. Liverpool are a real title contender while Man Utd will struggle to get into the top six at this rate.

3) Lucky Spurs

Tottenham have been playing some great football this season. But against Burnley, they were extremely sloppy. They had to wait until injury time to win the game. They were indebted to Eriksen for his winner. But the performance was not at all convincing and it seems they are likely to fall short  in the title race yet again.

To sum up, it was a great weekend of football. This coming week we will have the Carabao Cup quarter finals and much more to look forward to!

Futydose: Three Things We Learned from PL Gameweek 14

Gameweek 14 threw up some amazing results. Liverpool scraped past Everton in injury time with a really lucky winner while Southampton held United to a 2-2 draw. Man City continued their winning run but Spurs lost to Arsenal in a thrilling North London Derby. So here is a look at the three things we learned from PL Gameweek 14:

1) Arsenal Arrival

Ever since the arrival of Unai Emery, Arsenal had not won a big game. The Spanish manager was still struggling in terms of organising his defence, and had lost to City and Chelsea while drawing with Liverpool. But this week they smashed Spurs 4-2. It was a really enjoyable game but Spurs were lucky to get even 2 goals. They got a lucky penalty and also got a red card. But Arsenal just didn’t stop attacking them and comfortably won the game. They are top 4 contenders for sure.

2) Saints Revival

Southampton started the game in the bottom three. They really wanted the three points in order to improve their prospects of staying up. Although they didn’t get the three points against Man Utd, but they played really well. They were 2 up very quickly in the game. Even though they conceded two goals but they got a good point. Mark Hughes was sacked today, but the Saints have enough quality in the squad. They might just stay up this season when the new manager comes in.

3) Lucky Liverpool

Everton played a fantastic game. They went toe-to-toe against Liverpool for the 90 minutes and created the better chances. But right at the death, Liverpool scraped the win as Jordan Pickford made a big mistake. Origi was the goalscorer and in a sense he has repaid the faith shown in him by Klopp. Liverpool remain in the title race.

To sum up, it was a great weekend of football and there is even more to come. There are midweek games in the PL and it is likely to get tighter in the race for the top 4!

Futydose: Three Things We Learned from PL Gameweek 13

Finally, the premier league returned after what seemed like an eternity. This international break seemed way too long and the fans couldn’t wait for the PL to be back. And it was back with a bang! Man City and Liverpool continued their amazing unbeaten runs while Chelsea’s was halted by Tottenham. Arsenal scraped another win as the race for the top six became tight again. So here is a look at the three things we learned from PL Gameweek 13:

1) Liverpool Grit

Watford played very well against Liverpool. They held their own for a majority of the game and at one stage it seemed as if they will snatch a draw at least. But Liverpool are also playing very well and there seems to be an unusual grit about their play this season. They did not give up and in the end managed to win the game easily by three goals.

2) Arsenal Scrape Past Bournemouth

Arsenal were helped by an own goal as they scraped past Bournemouth 2-1. The cherries deserved a point from the game but were a bit unlucky in the end. This win takes Arsenal’s unbeaten run to 17 games and it shows that they are contenders for the top 4 this season. Although they are just outside that, they are increasingly showing that they cannot be taken lightly.

3) Newcastle On A Roll

Three matches ago, Newcastle looked in deep relegation trouble. They were winless since the start of the season and it was hard to see a win coming. Here we are looking at a side which has won three games on the trot now. They are now sitting in a comfortable mid table position! It seems as if they have been rejuvenated and their fans will hope that this continues.

To sum up, this weekend was again an action packed one and showed us that there are a lot of good teams in the premier league. The next weekend is also bound to be exciting since the North London Derby is coming up!

Futydose: Three Things We Learned From PL Gameweek 12

Gameweek 12 of the PL threw up some really interesting results. While Chelsea failed to beat Everton at home, Man City dominated Man Utd. Arsenal also struggled against Wolves and this meant that only 3 of the so called big six managed to win. So let us have a look at the 3 things we learned from PL Gameweek 12:

1) Clueless Chelsea

Chelsea struggled to a 0-0 draw against Everton at Stamford Bridge. They dominated the ball and did create some chances, but did not take them. There is a lack of killing instinct at the top end of the pitch which is harming their title chances. Morata missed chances and was caught offside too many times. If this continues, Chelsea will have to settle for third place this season.

2) Dominant City

Man City were sublime as usual. They cruised to a 3-1 win over lacklustre United. They were driven by David Silva and Sergio Aguero. City started well and were 1-0 ahead at half time. To be honest, they could have had more goals. United were struggling to even match up to City who were unlucky as well. In the second half they added two more goals and Martial’s penalty was nothing but a consolation.

3) Lucky Liverpool

Liverpool beat Fulham 2-0, but they were also a bit lucky in the game. This is because their first goal should have been disallowed and Fulham could have had a goal themselves seconds before the incident. Anyway, Liverpool managed to score a second after half time, winning comfortably in the end. But the performance was far from convincing and they could have easily drawn the game 1-1.

To sum up, it was a great weekend of football but there were few shocks around as well. The top 4 are not separated by 5 points and the rest of the league is struggling to keep up. If the same trend remains, we will not have a tough competition for the top 4 for the first time in many years. At the top, City look too good for the rest of the league.

Futydose: Three Things We Learned From PL Gameweek 11

Gameweek 11 of the PL saw loads and loads of goals. While Man City managed to score 6 against Southampton, Chelsea hit 3 against Palace. In other results, Man Utd sneaked past Bouremouth while Spurs beat Wolves 3-2 away from home. Arsenal and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw. So let us have a look at the 3 things we learned from PL Gameweek 11:

1) Spurs Spurt

Spurs were typically flamboyant against Wolves in the initial phase of the game. They built a 3-0 lead early in the second half and were looking comfortable. Then they showed their soft underbelly again as 2 penalties were awarded to Wolves who scored them to make it 2-3. Wolves had a late chance to steal a draw but they were not lucky enough to get a third penalty which they deserved. Nevertheless, Spurs need to improve if they are to challenge for the title.

2) City Crush Saints

Man City smashed Southampton by 6 goals to 1. They were in sublime form as Aguero and Sterling ran rout. The saints pulled one back through a Danny Ings penalty in the first half, but it was never going to be enough. City are threatening to run away with the title again and this would be a remarkable achievement for Pep Guardiola.

3) Unconvincing United

Man Utd were struggling against Bournemouth in the first half. The cherries took an early lead and could have been further ahead by half time if they had taken their chances. But United came back through Martial and in the final moments of the game stole it via Marcus Rashford. Despite the three points, they were far from convincing and still trail 6th placed Bournemouth in the Premier League table.

To sum up, it was a great weekend of football which was full of goals. There is now a 2 point cushion for City at the top, which could be a warning to the rest. If they again go on a winning run, they will be hard to stop. Anyhow, the Manchester derby next weekend is likely to be a cracker with United also improving recently.

Futydose: Three Things We Learned From PL Gameweek 10

Gameweek 10 of the PL threw up some amazing results. While Palace battled back to draw with Arsenal, 10-man West Ham nearly beat Leicester away, conceding a late late equaliser. The way this season is going, it looks like we have a really close title race on our hands. So let us have a look at the 3 things we learned from PL Gameweek 10:

1) Palace Power

Coming into the weekend, Crystal Palace knew that their next 4 fixtures are against the top 6 teams. Many experts were worried as to what will happen to them over these weeks. However, Roy Hodgson’s side showed great composure and managed to sneak a 2-2 draw with much fancied Arsenal. This result shows that Palace should not be underestimated and they have the ability to beat anyone.

2) Lively Liverpool

Liverpool’s forward line had not been performing up to the mark in recent months. They had been a bit shy on the goals front. But against Cardiff, they showed their class again. They smashed 4 past the Cardiff defence, with Mo Salah back in sublime form. Liverpool are continuing to show that they will challenge for the title this season and the others better watch out!

3) Comfortable City

There is no stopping Man City. For all the praise received by Mauricio Pochettino, he has failed to have an impact in a big game yet again. Tottenham are again likely to fall short of a title challenge. They were beaten 1-0 by City and they missed a host of chances. Pochettino really needs a trophy now but he is unlikely to win one. On the other hand City continued their great run and are now firm favorites for the title.

To sum up, it was a brilliant week of football, with exciting matches all over. The battles at the top and the bottom have become even tighter, with just a few points between the top 5 as well as the bottom 6. This season really feels like a really exciting one!

Premier League

Futydose: Three Things We Learned From PL Gameweek 9

Gameweek 9 proved to be a really thrilling one. Liverpool and Man City recorded wins, while Chelsea could only draw with Man Utd. Arsenal and Tottenham won their games to keep the pressure on the top 3. In other results, Cardiff beat Fulham 4-2 and Everton beat Palace 2-0. So here are the 3 things we learned from PL Gameweek 9:

1) Cardiff Grit

Before this gameweek, Cardiff had been extremely lacklustre. They had not won any games and the pressure was on Neil Warnock. Fulham were the opposition – a direct relegation rival. And Fulham took the lead through Schurrle. But, Cardiff hit back with two goals of their own before Fulham scored again. But Cardiff showed their grit to win the match 4-2 and condemn Fulham to the relegation zone. This shows that it’s going to be tight down there this year.

2) Wonderful Watford

Wolves had been playing superbly well this year. Everyone has praised their manager and their style of play. So when they hosted out of form Watford, it was predicted to be a home win. However, Watford managed to surprise everyone by scoring two goals within the space of a few minutes. Wolves tried their best to recover but could not do so, handing Gracia a great win. Watford are back – and in some style.

3) Chelsea Struggle

Sarriball has received rave reviews so far. But against Man Utd at the bridge, they simply did not take enough chances. Morata was again the guilty party. Early on, Chelsea dominated the game and should have been 2 or 3 up. However, they scored just one. And that opened the gate for Man Utd, who scored twice. Chelsea got a point right at the end, but it was not a convincing performance at all. Sarriball needs to improve and they need to take their chances better if they want to compete for the title.

To sum up, it was a great week of footballing action in the PL. The way Man City smashed Burnley 5-0, they remain favourites for the title. Watford returned to form and Liverpool continued to grind out results. Makes for an interesting gameweek 10!

Futydose: Three Things We Learned From PL Gameweek 7

Gameweek 7 of the premier league threw at us one of the biggest matches of the season till date. Chelsea

took on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Although the match ended in a draw, it was one of the finest matches

in recent memory. Both teams attacked superbly and it was a thrilling game. Apart from this, West Ham

beat Man Utd 3-1 at the London Stadium and Man City beat Brighton 2-0. So here is a look at the three

things we learned from PL gameweek 7:

1) Three Way Title Race

Last season, the PL title race was a dull affair. Man City ran away with it fairly early and there was not much

of a chance given to others. But this year, it looks like a three way battle. Liverpool and Chelsea have

started the season very well and look to be very close to City. If they can sustain this, we could have a

really close title race on our hands. Although Chelsea and Liverpool drew this weekend, their style of play

was sublime. City could well fall short this season if the current trend continues.

2) United Divided

Manchester United were sloppy as usual. Pellegrini’s West Ham managed to rip them apart by scoring

three goals. Even though United pulled one back via Rashford, they were never really in the game. The first

one was scored by Felipe Anderson who looked impressive in the game. While the second goal was an

own goal, Arnautovic scored a brilliant third to dump United into 10th place in the table. Things need to

change drastically for them to make the top 4 this season.

3) Sub-Par City

Manchester City were not at their best against Brighton. They did not dominate the match enough. And yet,

they managed to win the game 2-0. This shows how good they are individually. Aguero continued his

remarkable scoring record and led City to the three points, although it was not a very convincing

To sum up, this gameweek was one of the more exciting ones and it showed the unpredictable nature of

the league we all love. It also showed that this season’s title race will go down to the wire.
